Bottega Cini, the hub of the Made in Venice with Jelena Vesic, store manager

On episode #6 of Venice Talks I had the pleasure to talk to Jelena Vesic, store manager and SMM for Bottega Cini in Venice.

Bottega Cini is a new Concept Store, a point of dialogue between culture and companies, not just Venetian. It aims to create a new type of Museum Shop, a Renaissance shop reinterpreted in a contemporary key. In its commercial space it combines the Venetian perfumery art of The Merchant of Venice with other excellences of the territory, such as the Impiraressa Marisa Convento, NasonMoretti, Ercole Moretti glassworks, Marsilio and Lineadacqua publishing houses, the ancient Toscolano 1381 paper mill, the sculptures by Giancarlo Franco Tramontin, the forcole by Saverio Pastor, the serigraphs by Gianpaolo Fallani, the Geminiano Cozzi 1765 porcelains and other artisan and artistic realities that are gradually being added.

We talked about all of that and also what is like to be an expat in Venice.

You can find Jelena at Bottega Cini in Dorsoduro and on all social medias as BottegaCini.

I hope you will enjoy our chat!

Venezia Anno Zero in 13 minutes

In a report by Andrea Morucchio, the city empty and silent during the lockdown: a wordless video accompanied by the driving music of Claudio Rocchetti. “Despite how dramatic those days were, they gave us something unrepeatable”
Fifty years ago, his father, Lorenzo Morucchio, had taken a black-and-white photograph that has gone down in the history of Venice: two carabinieri in full dress uniform, seen from behind, crossing a Piazza San Marco covered in snow, as the wind ruffles the cape of their uniform.

Venezia Anno Zero. Andrea Morucchio’s project

If it is true, as it is true, that opportunities are born from crises, this is only possible if one knows how to seize them, and to know how to seize them one must first know how to look for them. The work created by Andrea Morucchio (Venice, 1967) during the lockdown period (from 17 March to 17 May) and now on view in an immersive setting at Bottega Cini’s Spazio Proiezioni is a synthesis of 30 hours of video shot across the city of Venice, using a simple smartphone, without a tripod or stabiliser. Halfway between curiosity and transgressive freedom (the artist states that he filmed without permits), it stems from an intuitive impulse, unpremeditated and entirely spontaneous, the outcome of which, as with heuristic processes, is fraught with chance, uncertainty and unexpected surprises.

“Venezia Anno Zero”. The spirit of the lagoon in the emptiness of the lockdown

“VAZ, Venezia Anno Zero,” that is, the lagoon during the lockdown as seen by Andrea Morucchio.
The short film will be on view until 2 November at Bottega Cini (free entry).
“Venezia Anno Zero” is a project by Andrea Morucchio that starts from video documentation of various areas of Venice during the quarantine period. From 17 March to 17 May, around thirty hours of video were recorded.

Bottega Cini, a new type of museum shop in Venice, is a cause for celebration. It is refreshing to witness the opening of a store that fits so perfectly into the local community, mixing commerce and traditional Venetian culture, positioned in just the right zone.
